Indoor introduction

Start by introducing the dog to the bike trailer indoors. Do not mount the wheels yet, and if necessary, leave the stroller on a rug or blanket to protect the floor.

Leave all entrances open, and let the dog explore the trailer. Feel free to put a treat or a toy inside the trailer to make the experience positive. Reward your dog as they enter the stroller, and make it a fun activity.

Mount the wheels

Once your dog feels comfortable inside the trailer, mount the wheels and engage the parking brake. Let your dog continue exploring the trailer with the wheels attached.

Reward calm behavior and make sure the trailer stays stable the first few times your dog jumps in and out.

Practice sitting and relaxing

Encourage your dog to sit or lie down in the trailer while you move gently around nearby. Gradually close the openings for short periods and reward your dog for staying calm and relaxed.

Start moving the trailer

When your dog feels comfortable in the stationary trailer, begin moving it slowly indoors. Stay calm and positive throughout the process, as dogs often react to your energy and body language.

Move the training outdoors

Once your dog is confident indoors, continue the training outside. Practice getting in and out of the trailer and gently rolling it around outdoors before introducing the bike.

Connect the bike

When your dog is comfortable with the trailer and its movement, attach it to the bike. Start by walking the bike slowly before gradually introducing short and gentle rides.

Keep an eye on your dog

Always monitor your dog while riding. A bike mirror can help you keep an eye on your dog during the trip. Remember to bring water and take breaks when needed.

By introducing the bike trailer gradually and making the experience positive, you help your dog feel safe, relaxed, and comfortable on future adventures.
